Environmental Club Receives Honors

April 25, 2016

This past Saturday the NC chapter of the USGBC (United States Green Building Council) awarded the top 3 NC schools (public and private) in 5 categories at the Caterpillar plant in Clayton, NC (CAT is leading the industry in some awesome "green" initiatives by the way)...energy conservation, waste reduction, sustainability, and indoor air quality improvement.
Northern Nash High School placed in 3 of the 5 categories! We received two first place prizes (waste reduction for our recycling efforts and indoor air quality improvement for our upcoming planter boxes) and one second place prize (for overall sustainability) for the entire state of NC! This comes with a total $800 (two $300 and one $200) cash prize!
The four students that were able to attend are pictured  (Savannah Jones, Devin Powell, Elizabeth Perry and Kaitlyn Lamm)...Club advisor Rachel Owens says, "We are so excited to be awarded these great honors as most of the club is freshmen, and we are looking forward to the great ideas and projects we can complete in the years to come with this prize money." Congratulations!
